The Delight He Takes in Us

This week I want to share with you a passage from Psalm 37:
"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in him, he will do this. He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him."
I was reminded of this scripture this week. This past week I got to spend a week with a couple of my kids and my daughter-in-law in Edmonton; I had some work to be there for. And I was just reminded that now my kids are grown up and out of the house, for the last couple of years.
I have four kids, and when they were growing up—especially in the teenager stage—it was really just trying to survive, as opposed to quality time and really appreciating them. But now that they've been gone for a couple of years, the time that we get to spend together is, for me, a real blessing and a real honour to spend time with them. As you get older, your kids do their own thing, and I really feel blessed when they want to spend time with Heather and I.
While I was thinking of the delight that I had taken in my children, I was reminded of the delight that the Lord takes in us. It was just a great reminder for me. A lot of times I sit down and think, "Hey, I need this, I need this—here's my list of all the things that I need." And I think He does like that, but oftentimes I forget that He delights in us being with Him and spending some time with Him.
So the challenge for me really was just to remember that, and to make time throughout the day to be focused on Him and allow Him some time with me. And it even says in the Word that He sings songs over us. So one thing I want to do is just listen—listen for those songs, and listen to the blessing that God gives us in our daily lives. And I would just encourage you to do that as well.
Prayer
Father, we thank you, Lord, this morning. We want to honour you, God, and devote this time, this worship time, especially, Lord, to be in your presence and give our hearts to you, Father. Be reminded of all the wonderful things that you've done for us and will do for us, Lord. Be reminded of the delight that you take in this time that I spend with you. So bless our time. May it be a time of refreshing and renewal, Lord, and just a time of positive relationship, stillness with you, Father. In Jesus' name, amen.
