What’s the state of your city?

Matt 5:15

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden:”

Christ is informing the believer of not only their position in the spirit realm, but also their structure and substance. When we believe on Christ, we are as a city, set on a hill. We do not choose our position, He does. He has chosen to set the believer in a place of prominence. He has chosen to display you as a city. By virtue of believing in Him, you have no choice but to stand out in a blatantly obvious position in the spirit.

The question then must be asked, if we do not choose our placement and we are seen by all as a city – in what state of affairs is your city? How is it with your soul?

For those viewing your city on a hill (the representation of your belief in Christ) what do they see? Is it a strong fortress, offering refuge to those around? Does it boast strong fortification and foundations that cannot be shaken? Or are your walls crumbling, having suffered at the hands of repeated attacks from the enemy? Have you failed to repair and build up your city? Have you no longer any time to dedicate to the work you once did?

Self-reflection has value, God’s reflection has more. Ask Him in prayer today to walk you through your city on a hill. Ask Him to show you where your city is well maintained, strong, and fortified. Then dare to ask Him what is weak, lacking, and needing attention. His mercy was great enough to save you, His mercy is great enough to deal kindly with you through genuine inquiry. Discuss with Him today how He can help restore and build your city on a hill that it may stand as a bold representation of His undying love and mercy.
