This morning we light the candle representing Joy in our Christmas advent series. Joy is one of the greatest gifts we receive from the Lord.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
-Luke 2: 8 – 12
With the gift of salvation, comes the gift of Joy. Let us celebrate the Joyous nature of our God this season. We try to manufacture Joy in our lives through various means. While we can create temporary, fleeting moments of joy, God promises that in Him we can find complete joy.
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."
-John 15: 9 – 11
Joy is a fruit of the Spirit and as we continue to be a branch on the vine of our Lord, we receive the joy that is present in His very being. Take some time this season to connect with our creator and receive the deposit of joy in us through the Holy Spirit. Bless you and have a wonderful Christmas.
